Shearing

hughdonoghue106

Just like a haircut, shearing doesn't hurt a sheep. But it requires skill so that the sheep is shorn efficiently and quickly without causing cuts or injury to the sheep or shearer. Sheep are becoming larger and growing heavier fleeces. Some farms now shear adult sheep every six months.

Sheep wool keeps the animals insulated from the elements. Sheep shearing is avoided in the winters so as to allow the sheep to keep itself warm. In summers, however, sheep need to keep their body cool. And they do frolic and leap for at least a day after their shearing, free of the heavy coat.
